Review by 'horsekeeper' on item 'Incubator Warehouse Vrooder'

The plastic piece that holds the top wires together is not likely to survive your efforts to put it together. Once it has crumbled apart you can tape it together with the wires to make it functional after it has collapsed on your chicks a couple of times. Then there are the thumbscrews that work...

    Coops for the Severely Unhandy

I have had this in place for over 10 years and with the hardware cloth bolted on and a 2x4 door frame it has been absolutely predator proof. I am not so sure a hoop house would be as impregnable. It is also easy to move if you screw it to a base. Just take the screws out, drag the base to a new...

    Coops for the Severely Unhandy

A calf hutch attached to a floor of 2x4x8s. A power drill and some bolts to attach hardware cloth over the openings. The bonus is that you can staple clear plastic over the openings in the winter and they still have good light during the day.

    Turken Naken Necks (EW!)

Mine are friendly and great foragers. They lay perfect satiny large to extra large eggs, are very cold hardy and you can make any color you want. I have had some with crests (legbar cross), feathered legs and feet (cochin cross) and some truly impressive Jersey Giant crosses that stalk around...

TSC chicks keep dying despite ideal conditions

I can't tell you the specific place I found it. I read every thing I could find for a couple of days because I was trying to blame the feed or the shavings under the paper towels in the brooder. Finally found it on a veterinary/animal husbandry/university site or two, but don't remember which...

TSC chicks keep dying despite ideal conditions

I had this problem last year with chicks that I picked up from a breeder locally, TSC chicks, and my own hatched chicks. They would look fine, eat and drink, act a little off and then be dead the next morning. I believe it was coccidiosis. When I treated them with corid the problem ended and...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I went out yesterday and got two weeks of chicken feed hoping to get ahead of any problems with supply. Pretty scary. Our local feed mill shut down last week for reasons unrelated to the virus scare. They have been planning for months to sell to another company and last week was their...

    Clipping a rooster'z spurs???

My daughter (adult) had a big old speckled sussex rooster who was very sweet and calm to be picked up. He had double spurs and the top one would curl around and dig right into his leg. The bottom one would get so long he scraped the opposite leg with it. She would put him on her lap on his...

    Best cheap run roofing

This was on my coops, but same idea. I used the cheap corrugated metal roofing and put a clear panel of composite every third one. I live where there is quite a bit of snow in the winter and it gets hot in the summer and this way they have plenty of light and shade too when they need it. It...
