We got this breed over a year ago and are only now seeing the different colors in the chicks.
If you were previously breeding the Splash variant of the BLRW that would explain why you're getting dark chicks now, because you're breeding a Blue male over a Blue and Splash hens.
These pictures were taken of birds I got from McKinney and Govero 17 or 18 years ago and are long gone. Their type wasn't amazing, but you can see the color in them. The color is a bit wonky, because let's face it, we've come a long way in digital photography since then.
