I've always wondered....


Why do people use incubators?

Why can't they just let the hens do what nature intended?

Hens are TOOOOO slow, and they couldn't hatch as many eggs as a big old Sportsman can LOL!!!!!

They are easyier to schule.

The chicks can be handled more and end up being tamer than chicks raised by mama hens.

I use an incubator because I had no chickens and this was the way to get started..now when they grow up it might be a different story..but I had to start somewhere like a lot of others..

Because the Broodiness has been bred out of a lot of the breeds, so if you waited for Nature to take its course, you would have a lot less chickens.

Broody hens dont have a on/off switch.

not everyones hens go broody too so that's another reason

Because broodies don't always work out.

My last broody had 8 eggs. 7 didn't develop. The last died in the shell a couple of days before hatch. Sad day for my children when we did the eggtopsies.

I can hatch eggs from hens i don't even own and have never seen

You can get more eggs hatched and determine when they get hatched. Some breeds, like the S/S Hamburgs, do not set on their eggs.
