I built an 8x12. The highest point is about 8' 6". As Ted says it drops off pretty quickly. I posted the drawings on Sketchup. Search for 8x12 woods coop. I extended the roof line out a bit so mine is a little over 9' but you don't need the overhang. The 8x12 is a good size and it allows them...
Depends on what you are trying keep out. 2x4 welded wire works great for the bulk of the run. Keeps chickens in and most larger preditors out. Some preditors will dig under so many people bury hardware cloth into the ground or lay a skirt about a foot our more out from the side.
I have had great...
Nice job. Lots of good pictures of the build. I like the intro and reference to the benefits of the Woods style coop. I have an 8x12 Woods and love it. Nice run addition too. The matching roof line is great.
I just looked in my photos an apparently I don't have any of the finished interior. But I put two roost bars along the back with room for a third, at 30" high. No poop board. Nest boxes opposite the main door. I also use a kind of deep litter method. Mostly course pine flake but also oak leaves...
The main yard is fenced with 4' high 2x4 welded wire and another 3 feet of garden poly fence above that. If they are confined in a smaller area they will fly over a 4' fence. I still have a couple that will clear the 7' fence occasionally.
I use the Premier1, 48' tall permanet. It's the one...
This article has a couple of pictures with attached runs.

Seems like you might want something larger. That coop will hold 24 birds.
My permanent yard off the coop is about 50x50. And I have 200' of electric net that I can...
Great choice in coop design. You should post some build photos.
I don't have an enclosed run. Mine opens into a large fenced yard. They like to hang out in the old hoop coop shelter.
Are you wanting a large run to keep them enclosed all the time or will they have access outside the run if not on...
A couple of years ago, I used a 4x8 coop on wheels with an 8x8 cattle panel hoop coop. I built several sections of wire chicken tunnel. I could place the main coop and move the hoop coop around as needed and they still had access to the main coop. Works pretty well if you have space to move it...
I just refill my 5 gallon buckets. And usually give a good rinse or cleaning as needed.
I'm sure you could rig some kind of float to work in a bucket. I think I've seen someone use a float valve from a toilet tank. Easy to find, inexpensive and reliable.
Nice job. Good progression of build photos. I built one of these last year and love it. Best coop ever. The only thing I would suggest is beefing up the header and framing around the upper windows. Those should be at least a doubled up header because it supports the roof load too. If not in a...
About 14-16 weeks. Chick feed is higher protien. It won't hurt them to stay on it a little longer, but give them some oyster shell about then for extra calcium.
Layer feed has the extra Calcium in it. Some people prefer to feed an all flock feed and provide calcium (oyster shell) on the side...
Search for Woods Coop or Woods Poultry House.
It's a really good design. Well ventilated. My birds love it. I built an 8x12 version. It would easily hold 24 birds.
Yes, a tube is what I described in post#10.
I still use my tunnels occasionally, but I have mostly switched to a couple of large yards. My flock size increased and it was easier than moving things around every few days.
Pine shavings in the coop. Which gets tossed in the run when cleaned out.
I get sticky mud here when it rains. I use lots of oak leaves in the run. I stockpile a bunch to get through the year. Even uncovered and exposed to rain they don't break down much until the chickens get to them. Just dump...
I received my results today. I do not live within any of the fire areas. But I do live near the 2013 Rim Fire. We definitely get the smoke from all the fires.
The average level of lead found in your eggs was 0.49 micrograms per 57 gram egg. Based on this, the average adult would not be at risk...
Mine is raised. Wood floor. And on skids in case I decide I want to move it. Depends on your preference.
A dirt floor would work. Howards is also movable.
I have had good success keeping all preditors out with electric fence. Except the flying ones.
I've thought about having the front as one big screen door made with hardware cloth. I was considering it for a smaller 4x8 sized one. Haven't done it yet.
The one problem with what you suggest is the roof of the scratch shed is pretty low, especially in the front, at about 4 feet. You have to...
Look for a book called "Modern Fresh Air Poultry Houses" by Prince T. Woods. You can google for online versions. Several people including myself have built a smaller version of the Woods colony house, half monitor style coop.
The book includes a section on the longer houses that might be what...
