So this morning we walked out to find that Our Guinea hen (Who has been sitting on a clutch of eggs) had hatched her littles! Ten!
Upon examination of the nest, my son found one more little. We are not sure how long it was on the nest alone.
We attempted to re-introduce it to the group...
New Mexico here and today should hit 104 and tomorrow 107 :barnie I've been misting the girls down in the afternoon but they seem to want to stay in the coop. Hoping we don't lose any... and go figure I have a broody setting and two others decide to catch the broody bug today  I'm going to...
So the 3 bantam eggs WITH OUT detached air cells... should I set those under the broody? We leave this evening for a 3 day trip  so I won't be here to turn them in the bator... which I read is beneficial for eggs with detached air cells (the other 11). :fl
Yep, I did get some answers! Thanks :) I'm super hesitant to put these in the incubator b/c we leave for a 3 day trip this evening and I won't be home to monitor it. I have it plugged in and I'm going to see if I can get the temp regulated before this evening :barnie then have them sit up in the...
So, the kids and I just received some hatching eggs in the mail (first time!). My plan is to tuck them under my broody after they rest for 24 hrs.
Upon inspection, there were a couple sweating, one cracked and several look oily? maybe or maybe just porous? See below

I think it really depends on your area and your "target market". Are you hoping to target those who appreciate farm-raised, natural, free-range chickens, OR the consumer that really doesn't care but just wants eggs. The price points will be completely different :) Also, you'll need to evaluate...
I agree with separating them with some fencing. They'll be able to see each other (get used to each other) yet can't harm each other. After a few weeks, reintroduction should go rather seamlessly (there will still be some pecking order behavior to determine "ranks" so to speak).
Well, the (once) chicks are now 10 weeks old and I kept EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. (so far) I'm amazed at how different they all look! My plan was to wait until I could tell the difference between the pullets and roos (I'm still having a hard time though). A couple have started to crow (barred little...
Wish me luck! Today I'm starting the eventual attempt of moving my broody! She's been setting for 9 days now.
Step 1: place her current nest (in current place) in a small plastic tote. ACCOMPLISHED!
I just put it back in the same place everything else was. My plan is to eventually (maybe) move...
This is my last attempt at finding eggs for my broody to set :( We've been emailing around for going on 5 days now! (She went broody 5 days ago). My 9 year old (this is his project) has his heart set on Wheaten Ameraucana's!
Does anyone have any available? We're in New Mexico so shipping would...
