Turkey Feed and Costs questions...

I live in So Cal too. I raised 8 Bourbon Red turkeys last year. It cost me approximately $68 per bird for the poult + food. I couldn't bring myself to charge $68 per bird so I charged $50 per processed bird and took the loss.

This year I am raising two BR for my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The heritage, home raised birds, taste like a million bucks and are totally worth the investment but convincing someone to pay else for it is a whole different ball game.

I was lucky enough to have recently bought three turkeys from the local animal shelter. All three are full grown, a Royal Palm Tom, a BBW Hen, and a mix of some sort, maybe a Slate and BR cross Tom. $5 each! Yes, you read that correctly $5 each. They would have been +/- $60 on Craig's list!
