Construction starts tomorrow!!
We are going from a 4'x8'to an 8'x8'coop!

Here's a pic of our current coop!
It sits in a 27'x27'run
Your lucky! My husband has already built me two coops.
He said
"I'm not building you anymore chicken coops". WELL, after my chicken math entered the equation, I told him he doesn't need to build me another coop, He just needs to build on a room addition!!! LOL I'm getting it too!!! Lol. Just 20 chickens but, who is counting??? Not me!!! Lol.
Congrats on your expansion.
Chicken math is real!!

Chicken math is real!!
Thanks so much!!!
Hubby and I quite enjoy building together. Which is good since we have a pig pen, goat pen, and a turkey coop to build bahahahaha...

Good luck on the build!!!

Those roosts are a bit thin for the long run.
What are they perched on in the background, is that a feeder?
The seem to work just fine..however I have wider if necessary..
They are on the nesting boxes in the back...

They are built in, not my first choice but they have a removable panel for cleaning and I had nesting boxes on a shelf prior...but they just laid on it when the boxes weren't there and under it once I put the boxes in and I can see eggs being laid under it .. so I eliminated the shelf.

It's not finished, obviously....but I am pretty proud of myself...I did a lot of this by myself as my husband doesn't handle heat well

They might, until the birds get bigger.
See how it's sagging?
It's not the width but the thickness, they look like 1x's(~3/4"),
the lower one looks even thinner.
You want at least a 2x2(1.5 x 1.5).
We were gonna make a brace for it if needed but I can see abt switching them too...

They are both the same size ..
Thanks for the advice

We are officially named!!!
Not so officially done...
We have one more set of doors to put on...

And still trying to figure out something more pleasing to the eye for the roof ..

This cover or whatever works swell...just I do not appreciate how it sits up there lol

I do however love the shack/hut type feel of the coop!!!

So I went out yesterday and bought the 2x2s...
However, I pulled them out of the 6ft slot. (Lack of paying attention 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️) so, you can imagine my face when I went to switch them out and they were too short....total surprise lol

So we ended up using one as a brace for both roosts. No sagging tonight! Idk abt long term, but the problem is currently fixed.

Roosts are still removable! Which is key since this is a walk up, not a walk in
