Blu-Kote It's Not Just for Chickens Anymore

i had commented on another thread for someone to use Blu-Kote on their injured rooster. i jokingly mentioned i had offered to use it on my husband's infected toe, but he wouldn't let me. But when ddawn said the gentian violet was an an old home remedy that people used to use, my husband said "Let's do it!".

Now, my husband has been suffering from this infected toe for months, he has been on four different rounds of antibiotics. The doctors gave him special stuff to put on his foot every day, he was instructed to soak it every night in warm water and epsom salts - but it just kept coming back and paining him something awful.

So, i slathered his toe with the Blu-Kote on two different occasions, and he went to the foot specialist today. The doctor looked at his foot and asked what that purple stuff was. My husband sheepishly said it was a chicken antibiotic, Blu-Kote. The doc perked up and said "Yes, the main ingredient is gentian violet". He went on to say how great the stuff is, antifungal, antibacterial. AND. most importantly, he proclaimed my husband's foot completely healed!

Wow, i just wish we would have tried this months ago.

Yep. That and wonder dust, I figure I can keep my husband out of the ER.

I do not have it here to write all of the ingredients down with, but it is like a cauterizing and drying agent. It pulls the wounds closed. I had a chicken with a fist sized piece of her back end removed, and now there is but a nickel sized scar.
it is wonderful stuff, just keep it away from their eyes.

Wonder Dust.

It's mostly lime. The agricultural type, not the stuff that burns, and I have used just lime dust on wounds with nearly the same result. It's for mucky wounds and ones that have proud flesh, it dries and closes a wound as mentioned.

There are 2 other products I love that are like these. One is Eye & Wound Dust, (I can't find it on line) has an antibiotic in it and is not caustic at all, in fact can be used in the eyes (obviously) and Keraplex which is Methyl violet with Neomycin Sulfate, a great antibiotic. It's also for use in eyes, for pink eye, and wounds. I have put it on my feet once when I was working in these heavy boots for weeks and my feet got itchy, wondered if I had athletes foot starting, and the itch went away same day. Also I have used it on my horse's frogs for thrush infection, works the best of anything I have tried ever, including all the products for thrush.

Yes having purple feet is a conversation piece!

Yup, I used Wonder Dust on myself after a shop mishap. Easy to apply with one hand onto the other. It was on top of the first aid box, and I needed to stop the bleeding after flushing things in the faucet. Things clotted right up. Neosporin doesn't stick worth a darn to a wet, actively bleeding wound.

Yes and superglue also works to seal skin splits caused by winter weather-------where your fingers crack and bleed and hurt worse then paper cut with orange juice on it. The superglue holds the skin together until the wound heals, I'd thought I'd invented it, but found several co-workers also use it for winter skin cracking. (For you young-uns who don't know what I'm talking about--you'll find out soon enough)

I guess I will try out the blue-kote on my next ingrown toenail I get on my old-man gnarly troglodyte foot talons.

Dark matter, I have been thinking about superglue to patch up a continually split lip. I suppose it needs a stitch or two. It will almost heal up and somebody makes me laugh again.

I guess it could help with the new years diet too. I only eat what can fit into the part I don't accidentally glue shut.

I was seriously considering it until I thought about gluing my lips together and not just the lip.

I will look for the keraplex. That sounds like a good emergency med to have.
