Hi all!
I've got an Easter egger named Scarlet that we rescued about a year and a half ago. When we got her she had this dirty butt (vent gleet?) and while it has gotten slightly better, it's still a constant thing she has. UNLESS she is molting and not laying. We've had her for two cycles now...
One of my hens has been getting poop stuck in her feathers continuously. We trimmed her butt fluff down a little bit and we give her Epsom salt baths regularly but it keeps happening. She is also the only one of my chickens that has blood in her eggs, although I don't know if that's related at...
Hello all, I went into the run today to give out the daily dose of love and cuddles and noticed my 1yr old EE kinda fluffy and quiet off to the side. I felt her crop and all was normal, but she does have messy/dirt butt feathers. My question is, would this be vent gleet or a possible case of...
I don’t know if this fits on this thread, but there wasn’t a category specifically for feather care/ grooming.
My Silkie hen is 4 years old, going on 5 by next May. She’s perfectly healthy, but can’t seem to reach her vent to groom her butt. It’s to the point that she gets irritated by the...
I have four hens all around 6 1/2 months old. They are all laying eggs completely normally and eating fine. It seems like out of nowhere my hens developed really dirty butts. What could be causing this? And how can I treat it?
I have a chicken (around 2y.o.) in my flock of 4 that has started to lose her neck feathers and the feathers on her back end are getting very dirty. Noticed loss of neck feathers and dirty bum a few days ago (we just had a heat wave for 3 days, around 100F). Her behavior is still normal, eating...
I have been noticing a loss of feathers on half of my hens butts but no where else all the hens that loss feathers had to be cleaned due to being covered in poop. They all are eating fine and drinking no noticeable change in their behaviors. I also haven’t noticed any pecking or any behaviors of...
Hi!
I bought 2 Wyandotte chicks and 2 Speckled Sussex chicks in September. One of the Wyandottes had issues with pasty butt, despite my constant cleaning, plenty of water, and not too much heat. I even put Vaseline on her bottom each time I cleaned it. Now that they are bigger and in my grow-out...
Hi folks, lately my flock’s droppings have been a bit runny, but I’m not sure what could be causing this. I doubt it’s coccidoisis, because they’ve been treated with corrid. Could lice cause this? We’ve been dealing with them, but are treating with permethrin. Also, a few hens have dirty butts...
Credit for this goes to my Silkiez: if it wasnt for you apperently hosting Poopapalooza '19 in the coop last night and your lovley poopoo feather paint jobs smh i never seen soo much poo on a bird let alone multiple all at once SMH)
(im very proud that this idea came into my life, wish i...
We've got (or had) 5 hens housed with 3 ducks. A couple of our hens have had chronic dirty vents and some diarrhea. They're housed in a huge outdoor pen (with coop inside) so it's not easy to tell who is laying or what poo looks like in great detail, but it's clear that 2 of them had diarrhea...
hey folks so I have a hen who seems to have loose stool her but is always dirty... I have bathed her s few times separated her from the flock, thought it was vent gleet but her vent looks fine, not red or irritated. I’ve been giving her yogurt, put ACV in her water(which molded her water...
