To my way of thinking I would be trying a 45deg bend rather than 90 because as I see it I can't see gravity alone feeding that length of feeder tube with the cutouts, then again I may be wrong?
Cheers,
John
Sure,
Here are a couple of links with good explanations, http://www.sgaonline.org.au/?p=7306 and this second link also has YouTube to watch http://www.bitsouttheback.net/p/wicking-bed-ibc-barrel-construction.html.
Of course you guys over there may not have the same issues with water that we...
Hi Skip,
Sorry buddy I missed your last post so apologies for that.
As for recovering my run with hardware cloth, well for the moment that will not happen as the coop / bird aviary which has probably been here for at least the last thirty years is slowly starting to rot where all the roof...
I'm having a huge problems with rats at the moment, I'm infested with them. They are all baby ones and can squeeze through the smallest of holes to get into the cage, when I went out last night to have a look there were at least 20 in there if not more, and I closely watched as to where they...
Congratulations Hawgon in solving your moisture problem and also your first Serrama egg from your hens.
I still have 14 days to see what my broody hen is going to produce for me, she has a mixed dozen of speckled, silver, and light Sussex that she is currently sitting on.
Cheers,
John
Sure, but I may have trouble with that as Amazon will not post that apparatus to me here in Oz. I can buy it here directly but @ $99 + postage it's a bit of a rip off, I'll see what I can come up with.
Cheers,
John
Yeah, gotta say I'm having the same issues with rats at the moment. I'm also a budgie breeder and the buggas get into my aviary and attack and eat the budgies. My aviary is beside the hen house so there is plenty of food to attract them there, but when they see those tasty little things sitting...
OK, thanks for that. I have been using 4 inch also but with a screw on end cap at the end of the Y that I cut the top half out of so as the feed cannot spill out of it, but I was of the opinion that 4 inch was too small for their heads and so I was looking at 6 inch but the costs escalate...
Hi Mat,
At the moment I'm not using anything, I just throw a handful of scratch out in the mornings with some greens and stuff in the afternoon. I did have that setup in a four inch configuration but was not satisfied with the overall head room for the chook, but hey again I'm probably over...
Now that's the type of feeder I was looking at but got put off because of the cost of the fittings in those larger diameters.
I did come across another feeder designed here in Oz and can be seen here which for me looks the ideal setup except I wont be paying for it. If you look closely inside...
You must have a bit of Oz in you.
Cheers,
John
P.S. I'm currently re-evaluating my pipe feeder design simply because of overall cost, IE once you start stepping up into bigger diameters so does the price dramatically and so I figure economically it's not worth it unless you have the...
Hi Sue,
Yeah, its a mighty long thread and I may have missed something vital in between all those pages I didn't read but hopefully not but I have pm hannakat to find out what her final set-up was.
According to the experts smell is not an issue if the set-up is kept correctly without moulds...
Hi Sue & Mat,
Sure would love to keep you updated!
I have been getting all my info from this 400 page plus thread, https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/492636/mealworm-farming. I read the first 20 and the last 20 pages of the thread but the most information can be found in the 3 links in the...
Yeah I could certainly be over thinking it that's for sure.
But having played around for a bit yesterday with different fittings I think I will be going with 2 x 45 deg bends which of course = the 90 deg elbow but the bend is much less severe and the pellets flow so much better. I shall post...
OK, I did my own experimentation this morning with just an elbow and a 1/2 cut end cap but because I was only using 100mm pipe I think the girls would struggle to get their heads in there comfortably to eat. On the link that I sent I think he was using at least 150 or 225mm diameter size pipe...
Here is a thread which interested me initially for the build of the coop but then I saw his pvc feeder https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/710785/finished-my-coop-in-three-steps#post_9700747
Not sure why a Y was used cause as far as I can think there would be food sitting in the bottom of the Y...
