My mealy worms have become pupae, bugs and now the container really smells. It's too hot to put them outdoors so they're in a.c. in the living room. What can I do? If cleaning it, how do you work around bugs, eggs, and worms? How often do you add wheat bran? Thanks...
I've got 4 separate containers to raise mealy worms, but do not have screening or layers or bugs dropping down. I'm trying to multiply them in a self contained area and keep adding wheat bran and carrots. Any advise from anyone? Will this work without separating mealies from pupae from eggs...
I just got 5000 mealy worms delivered. Question: I see some bugs already developed in the grouping. Will they get cold and dormant in the refrigerator with the mealy worms or will I have bugs in my own food??? Yuck! I'm trying to pick them out but.... I'm sure I'll miss some.
Hi... I had a discussion with our farmer supply guy who sells either baby chick starter food or laying food. He says to not eat the eggs their mom is now laying since she eats starter food and to continue chick starter food for at least 4 months. As a newbie, I'm really confused. Any help...
When can chicks have laying feed? They're on chick starter (and other tasty morsels) now but have to go back to the farmer supply and want to know whether to return the laying feed for regular feed or keep it.
2 possessive moms are in a dog pen with 6 chicks, now almost 2 weeks. We'd like the chicks to be "people" friendly but the moms intervene. Any ideas?? When can they be released from the dog pen? We have 4 hens and a rooster all together before the 6 chicks were hatched "naturally". Thanks...
2 Moms have been in a dog pen for a week with their babies doing well. They started fighting this AM so we took the aggressive one out. She is pacing and wants back in. Now all the hens are edgy and pecking at each other. The rooster is a pain... either chasing them or on them. Question...
I bought some mealy worms for the adult hens to celebrate 6 newly hatched chicks (1 a day hatched for 6 days). They took it from my hand and gave it to the chicks!!! I was really surprised. Is this OK??
Our 6 eggs are hatching under 1 mama and 2 other hens are assisting with warmth. We opened the brooding box today and a cute head popped out! Felt it was too cool today to see what else we have, but they should all be hatching one day at a time. Since separation was a disaster a few days ago...
We moved the one main hen and 6 eggs to a dog pen within their caged area. Momma has not been on them. We put them in the nesting area we made in the pen and she moved them out into the sun in groups of 2 but won't sit. Are we doomed? Due: Saturday and each day following for 6 days. Does...
New chicks due anytime. Once hatched, when do they start eating and drinking? New at this! We are letting the momma do the job and she has been faithful sitting on them all this time. When she does get up another sits faithfully for her.
We have 4 white silkie hens and they are moving 6 eggs around at any given time. Question: We're new at this, so once the eggs start to hatch (laid 1 each day for 6 days) do we take them away and use a heat lamp? or.. Do we separate babies and one hen to a separate area? The brooding boxes...
Have 4 hens and 1 Rooster. Two are now sitting on eggs (I put the date) and we'd like to have the grandkids experience hatching. Do they sit for 21 days w/o eating and drinking? Can we combine the eggs so only 1 hen sits? Can you take the hens out to stretch and eat?? What happens once they...
