I am wondering if anyone has a minute to show me pics of their Rhode Island Red chicks that are maybe 6 weeks old.

I hatched some eggs from a friend. I sorted out the mixes.... and now I am left with 7 and I have no idea what I'm looking at here.

I've got big combs and little combs. I've I've got combs getting pinker. And then the saddle area feathers.... ALL LOOK THE SAME TO ME... regardless of the bigger, pinker combs or the small and still yellowish combs.

I am going out to see if I can snap some pics in a few min.... but I'm grasping at straws.

These little hoodlums have been a challenge.

Here’s a couple from when mine were about 6-7 weeks old.

Ok. I managed to take some pics in their brooder last night. I will post them as I can organize what we are looking at. Exhibit A from 2 angles.

That one looks like a cockerel. At this age you are looking for comb and wattle growth. Any chicks with large bright red wattles and combs are cockerels. Females will have small pale combs and wattles. Looking at the saddle area isn't going to be an indicator right now. Male specific feathering won't come in until 10-12 weeks old at least.

Exhibit B.
