My 5 year old barred rock has always limped but now she has some wounds on her legs. attached are pictures. she doesn’t seem to limp any more but they have been more prevalent and they were swollen a couple weeks ago. she lives in an appropriately sized coop with another barred rock and an isa brown of her same age. I have been soaking the foot and applying vetericyn.

I really want to know if there could be a medical condition for this or it is is probably my isa brown who has had some behavioral problems in the past.

Any help or thoughts appreciated.

There is a chance this is cancer. But treat the lesions as wounds for now. Soaking in Epsom salts helps blood circulation and healing, so continue doing that. Keep an antibiotic ointment on the wounds between soaks.

Just as important, you need to investigate the premises for hazards that could cause foot wounds. Bullying may also be a cause. Preventing further injury is as important as healing the original wounds.

I will continue treating it as a wound and monitoring the situation.

The thought of it being cancer had never crossed my mind. I have no experience with chicken cancer, could you direct me towards any resources for information?

She laid an egg today if that is important and i will be sure to make sure the coop is inspected.
