For those of you that use stall dry...

I've used Concern DE for a while, putting it in pet food when they have worms and also around their bedding to help with fleas. I got it in the garden department of the place I work. It's labeled as an insect killer, but I've been assured that it's safe (I tried it myself - wanted to make sure before giving it to the cats).

I've wondered about using it with the chickens in case of mites, but wondered about it killing off the bugs the chicks like to eat as well.

diatomaceous earth, the food grade or "codex" type has become my best friend.

I put this down where the chooks dust bath, on their perches, on them as they are eating the scratch off the barn floor and in the nest boxes, especially the nest boxes.

I figure they are getting enough when I put it on them as they eat so i do not put it in their food.

I use straw in ONE stall and shavings in the other.

The silkies use the straw to form the "silkie pile" at night.

I do see a few mites here and there, never any lice. I use seven and dust the chickies every so often (they hate me for this) and I spray the barn down with stall safe every so often.
