Eye infection? Or do ducks get allergies?

so last Thursday my male Pekin, Nibbler, had what looked like some type of discharge around his eyes. I thought it might just be mud as they like to splash around in their pool. Later that evening I found the fire ant nest and had the ducks inside all weekend.

Nibbler’s eye cleared up just fine

Today I just came out to check on them and he had the same discharge around his eyes. This time he had some white discharge collected on both eyes. I wiped it away without thinking to get a picture first

Do ducks get allergies? This cleared up after a day inside last week and came back after 2 days outside

Could you post a picture of your setup? It's sticky eye, which has quite a variety of causes, but most always it's likely due to poor hygiene practices. So the underlying cause will need to be addressed so it doesn't occur, but to treat make a saline wash, and flush the eye gently, and apply either Vetericyn Eye ointment or Terramycin to the eye afterwards.

Between ducks and rain, They have torn up all the grass and made it a muddy mess. Have laid some hay in there and replace it every day along with their food and water and the water in their pool.
Nibbler doesn’t go in the water much on his own. I put him in there and he started cleaning himself and he looked like a brand new duck.

I was wondering if it was some type of allergy or something in the pen as it started last week but went away completely when I brought them inside. Peep, the female, seems fine and unaffected by anything

Also the white discharge wasn’t so much pus as It was a bubbly foam is the best way to describe it

Just went out to check on them before bedtime and his eyes look fine. Like nothing happened

The bubbles can subside, but what I think your duck has is a minor infection in the eye, most likely some foreign matter has gotten into his eye and is causing some irritation/infection, when the duck in question isn't practicing normal hygiene practices, that can be conducive to these type of problems.

I would do the treatment I suggested above, but you need to take care of what you're keeping him in. A muddy pen, is going to cause a lot of problems.

I think if we humans replicate the duck's natural environment as much as possible we are often able to avoid commons problems that instead may occur when were keeping them in a small area.

I will try the treatment

The pen itself is pretty large. Abt 400 sq feet and he gets to roam the yard during the day.

Wasn’t expecting them to eat the grass up and turn it into a mud hole so fast.

You may try adding some natural decomposable material like leaves, wood chips, etc into the pen to help with the mud. That's what I use in mine.
