Hello everyone,

I have a 2 year & 9 month old leghorn hen that just started to show signs of sickness 1 day ago. I'm pretty sure she is not eggbound because she did lay an egg yesterday. She did not lay an egg today though (usually she lays daily). She is still eating and drinking but not as much as her regular self. I have also looked into the possibility of vent gleet in her. As of right now, I don't see any signs of mites/lice in her. If you guys have any suggestions on what type of illnesses my leghorn could be suffering, please let me know ASAP!

Below are some pictures of her physical appearance ⬇️⬇️ :

Much appreciated,
Valerie

I would get a fecal sample done to check for internal parasites.

What I have done is take a small sample from multiple animals so I get a herd representation. I then had my horse vet send the sample to the lab to test.

It’s a place to start, and if she has a heavy parasite load that could be causing her issues. If it comes back clean you can cross that off your list.

Vent Gleet is usually caused by a fungal infection.
