Hello everyone,

I have a leghorn hen that is 2 year & 9 months old and today she was acting very lethargic with her feathers down, tail down. I came to the suspicion that she could of been suffering from vent gleet since her vent is all dirty and wet with this white discharge. I also noticed this oddly big white/clear stuff hanging from her vent (it soon fell off her vent as I was carrying her). Her wattle is nice, big, and brightly red. But she has just been staying/resting in 1 spot a lot. If anyone has suggestions on what she is suffering from/treatments for it, please comment ASAP!

Below are pictures of her vent/poop ⬇️⬇️⬇️ :

Much appreciated,
Valerie

Looks like a malformed, soft shelled egg. I don't see any lash material. May just be a glitch, or if it continues could indicate a larger problem. I would give her a calcium citrate + D once a day, see if that firms up the shell. It will also help with contractions and help her pass any more that is still inside. Passing those can make them fell pretty bad, they are hard for them to pass. If she doesn't perk up some in the next day, I would also start her on an antibiotic. If there is egg material in the oviduct from a broken/ruptured egg, that can cause infection (doesn't always, but definitely a risk). Amoxicillin can be gotten as a fish antibiotic without a prescription (aqua mox).

Hello coach723, thank you so much for your reply. I will definitely keep your tip in mind. Would you also consider her suffering from vent gleet?
