Hey yall!
I plan to start selling chicks/fertile eggs in the Spring, so I decided to get NPIP certified in order to appeal to a wider market and have the ability to ship hatching eggs. Someone actually came out to test my flock today, both tests came back negative, I paid the $75 fee and I was...
I am hoping to be able to hatch and sell chicks over the summer but do I need to be NPIP certified for this? I am new at the selling part and still figuring out all the laws.
Do I have to have an NPIP flock to show my birds? If not, are health papers or some equivalent needed?
How old is too old for a show bird? I have a couple of 2 and 3 year olds that are gorgeous. Are they too old to show?
How young is too young? My hens didn't start laying until late this...
Is it legal to ship day-old chicks from California without NPIP certification? If my memory serves, it's illegal to ship to me without it, but Google hasn't yielded results when I search going out of California. What about within CA? Which other states require certification?
I'm afraid to get my...
So I have a questions for breeders. We just had our NPIP test done and my tester happened to breed and show Ameraucanas. We are rather new to the breed but I have a breeder pen currently that I'm working with. She told me that they require more protein in their diet compared to your general run...

It's been a tough year to get Salmonella Pullorum antigen. I've received word from the manufacturer to expect my shipment by the end of May. This antigen will have a 2021 expiration.
**GET ON THE WAITING LIST** Thank you for your patience.
Hello BYC!
Salmonella Pullorum Antigen...
I have been searching the RI DEM agriculture website all day and have come up with no answers. I want to start selling day old chicks but I want to make sure I am not doing so illegally. As far as I know NPIP certification is voluntary in my state. I cannot find any other certifications or laws...
Recently new to chickens, I had a vet come and inspect the farm and all the chickens. She found them all to be in good health and my farm to be clean and in order. She also advised me on normal worming, parasites, chicken health, etc. Later that week, one of our favorites died suddenly. No...
Hi all,
I'll be driving around today picking up 5 silkies from 3 different places to add to my flock (they are SO hard to find in my area!) I know you're supposed to quarantine for 30 days to ensure the birds are not sick/diseased.. how many people actually do this? I'll certainly keep them...
Eggs being imported have to be NPIP certified in a lot of places. But there's the import permit as well. Now, I'm wondering is the seller responsible for all that or does the buyer have to have the import permit? Cause I saw that the annual import permit form is for the out of state sellers to...
I am looking into getting my NPIP certification this year. I have goats within close proximity to my one chicken pen. How do you all handle the care of your goats and chickens while maintaining biosecurity?
I am aware of cryptosporidiosis. Are there other transmittable diseases that I should...
As I Googled Breeders for this area (in short driving distance) an old list complied on this site came up first. It was nicely organized by state. It hasn't been updated in a few years. There were no breeders in NJ. I thought it might be good to compile a list or NPIP breeders in NJ, PA and...
New and rare Double Silver Laced Barnevelder babies available here, both bantam (miniature sized), and regular sized barnies. The breeders we have kept, are based on feather pattern sharpness primarily. The type is there, we are just working on improving the quality of the lacing at this point...
Orusts are an extremely rare chicken breed recently brought back from the brink of extinction that originated from the western coast of Sweden. The chickens are mid-sized birds, very friendly, entertaining and active. The birds are healthy. They have a unique black and white mottled feather...
sorryguys, I have no idea what category to post this in.
Anyways, I have somebody bcm chicks from Painted EGG farms shipping June 18th, and even though they won’t be laying eggs for quite some time, I want to be prepared. I plan on breeding these chicks and starting a business of my own. I...
So I wasn't sure where to post this, but next month I have the the state lady coming in to do the NPIP inspection and tagging for my flock. I was thinking about making a youtube video about the process, to try and get other interested in becoming NPIP certified. Would anyone be interested in...
I was looking around at some threads for my upcoming attempt at NPIP certification, when I realized maybe we could open a new collective thread to compile ideas about flock management/biosecurity methods that existing NPIPers use. Can some of you NPIP certified flock raisers post your location...
Okay, so I got my NPIP packet in the mail today, and highlighted in the front page of Standard C is
"Dogs, cats, sheep, cattle, horses, and swine should never have access to poultry operations."
We live on a farm, how is this possible? Does it mean that the chickens shouldn't be able to get...
So, I have had my flock for a number of years now. The old owners of my house left their flock, and I added onto it over time. The only problem was that the chickens the old owners left me sneezed, and now so do my additions. I also want to breed for show and sale, and with sneezing chickens...
