    Raw fish.

I saw a few things about being able to feed my girls raw fish, but nothing about deboning them. Does anyone know if that should be done or can I throw it in whole, head and all? Going to be giving them a trout if that makes any difference. Tyia

    Nesting Boxes

What’s the benefit behind doing it that way though? Or is it just a preference?

    Nesting Boxes

I opened mine yesterday and it seemed to go off without a hitch lol. They are about 15 weeks now. When I give them hostas they run over and jump all over me. It’s fricken wild. Everytime I walk over in the morning now to say good morning they are sitting waiting for me to give them some.

Awesome! Thank you Theo for those tips! I ordered some garden twine and we will get them all strung up this week.

    Stringing tomato’s!

What is your indication that you see that might show an issue meaning you need to wrap the branches? I’m new to this method so any tips/tricks I’m all ears!

    Stringing tomato’s!

That’s what my main worry was cutting through the plant cause it looks like the main idea of supporting the plants is to have the twine wrapped around the branches enough to hold the weight of each branch right?

    Stringing tomato’s!

I was wondering if anyone has strung their tomato’s up before and if so if you think something like this would work? Most of the videos I’ve seen use twine and it looks like they do that to wrap around the actual branches for support? With these it’s more fishing line with adjustable tension so...

What did you do in the garden today?

    Nesting Boxes

They have been eating hostas for a while now, everything I read and told were that hostas are like crack for chickens lol and they seem pretty happy to eat them right up. Havent noticed any issues either. Will it be bad if I switch to a layer feed but still provide them oyster shells on the...

    Nesting Boxes

They are about 14 almost 15 weeks old, I still have them on grower feed and was going to change them to a layer feed in another week to two weeks. They have access to fresh greens (hostas) once a day and mealworms every few days and the occasional hanging head of cabbage.

    Nesting Boxes

I was just wondering, my barred rock chickens are getting CLOSE to the time of being old enough to start laying eggs. So when does everyone remove their barricade for their nest boxes and when and how do you know to add the crushed oyster shells into their diet? TYIA

    Questions about the roost bar!

UPDATE! They went in on their own tonight. I think a combo of turning lights on and getting rid of that front lip they were sleeping on originally might have done it!

    Questions about the roost bar!

Oh it does but what I’m saying is when we pick them up and get put into the coop they try to come back out like hey we found spots already out in the run. So my wife has to block the door with her hand so we can get them each caught and put in. That door takes its sweet time opening and closing...

    Questions about the roost bar!

I’ll have to leave them locked in the coop for a day and maybe figure out the construction, maybe cut a few boards inside off so it’s not as high. Either that or go back to locking them in the coop a few days more, especially now that I fixed that front ledge and they spent the night on the bar...

    Questions about the roost bar!

Like the door to the run? It’s got a fence latch on it and I could throw a lock through on end if that’s what you are saying?

    Questions about the roost bar!

I live on east coast ct to be exact so darkness is coming around 730 and pitch by almost 8. Especially with where the coop is located it gets darker in that part of the yard quicker. The issue with the run is it’s made of all pallets so they can quite literally roost EVERYWHERE LOL. I’ve been...

    Questions about the roost bar!

The light didn’t seem to work they got CLOSER and one even kept going in and out but they all decided to roost inside the run instead.

    Questions about the roost bar!

Yea it gets dark about that time. Especially with there run being fully covered it is definetly a tiny bit darker in there. Plus where the coop is located it’s the spot of the yard that gets the sun off it first. This was my solution for the issue.
