I wanted to update this post in case anyone ever has a similar situation. It’s been almost two months and she is doing amazing.
I kept her completely separate for 1-2 weeks. Then I had her out during the day, but separated from the boys so there wouldn’t be any mating. By one month she was back...
This poor little baby hatched with its leg bent backwards. I don’t think it’s a slipped tendon because I can’t get the leg to manipulate at all. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Was it treatable?
Okay, this might be a stupid question here… when you guys cool and mist your eggs, do you physically take them out of the incubator or just take the top of the incubator off?
The tear is 3-4 fingers long. It’s like her skin just split open. I can’t see any other wounds, which is worrisome since I’m assuming there should be another if the coyote was carrying her in its mouth.
Does anyone know if the skin will grow back together or if stitches are the only way?
I’m sorry I should have specified this in the post above. I do lock up all of my animals in predator proof housing at night, but they free range during the day. We have a lot of predators here, coyotes, raccoons, etc. A year ago, coyotes took two of my ducks in the middle of the day which was...
Thank you! That makes sense. It seems like all of the most interesting colors are in the UK and Canada. I haven’t seen as many in the US. If anyone knows any breeders that do, please let me know. ☺️ I suppose shipping eggs from Ontario to California would be a bit too much on the eggs! Your...
Thank you for response. They have been eating a non medicated organics crumble. I did a couple drops to each chick that night in addition to the water and thankfully all of them seem to be doing well now. I also ordered what you recommended just to have on hand.
I’m at a complete loss of how this even happened. I’m assuming it’s coccidiosis and immediately started treating them yesterday with Corid at the 2tsp/gallon. Their brooder is very clean and dry and they are kept indoors.
It is straight liquid coming out of them which I have never seen before...
I had 6 Sebastopol eggs shipped and to my surprise all of them were developing. I was pretty excited and now unfortunately if appears that they have all died and stopped developing. Why would this happen? I have a nr360 incubator. Did it have a spike in temperature or something without me...
Well I unfortunately just noticed it today so I can’t say if it’s better or worse. It looks like the ankle broke and it’s healing with the foot facing inward.
That’s kind of what I was thinking, I just know that would be a huge vet bill that I don’t think I can afford at the moment. I’ve spent hundreds at the vet before for a chicken with an injured leg, only for them to tell me there is nothing they can do for it. I wonder if anyone has ever had a...
A little over a week ago my Cochin hatched out an isbar chick. It was completely fine at least the first couple of days. I’ve been busy with my sick father and didn’t realize it had somehow broke its ankle. Today while feeding everyone I noticed it walking funny and see that it’s ankle is...
Well oddly enough this morning her neck is upright and she seems to be acting fine. I didn’t give her any vitamin e yesterday because I couldn’t find it. I had previously bought some for a quail and didn’t want to have to buy it again. I planned on buying more today if I still hadn’t found it...
I have a pullet that was like this when I let her out of the coop this morning. Her head is curved downward and not sideways at all. Is this wry neck or was she injured? Thanks for the help!
No, I did not. I ended up not vaccinating because I was too nervous to do it. My research gave me a lot of conflicting information. It seems like a lot of people don’t, and some give half doses. I’d be curious what alchemist farms does for theirs, maybe I’ll reach out to them.
