I found a live opossum all cuddled up in my hens' egg box last night along with mess of broken eggs. One of my four hens might be missing a toe and was terrified to move into the coop, We finally got the opossum out of the box by pulling the bottom out of the egg box. we have noticed a real...
Is it wrong to keep them copped up. Inside of coop is 22 sq ft and then the pen during the day is about the same plus the room under the coop. Four good size hens. No fox issues for three years, well maybe one a year or so ago.
Been a real long time since I posted. Quick update. Changed jobs a year and a half ago so I did not have to travel. New job not so great right now, so may have to consider other options. On the chicken front, we have been plugging along okay until this week when we caught a fox running away...
After two years I lost my first hen. Only a neat pile of feathers. I am thinking of adding a run for daytime foraging of just the light netting for sides and top. Better than nothing.
Not a bad idea.....I would have to figure out how to get them from the coop to the kennel.... . I think I will post a few pics of what I have to get some ideas from you all.
Oh yeah, one more thing, would I totally out of my mind to look for a farmer that would rent out space for me to put up my own coop or even a small property that I could put one up? Lot of money which I don't have right now and a lot of hassle, but.....
Morning everyone,
Thanks to everyone for your kind words about Princess. No sign of her. I feel a need to replace her, I guess that is the chicken math. My DW is not real keen on that though, I think she feels we are lucky we have gotten away with having them for the last two years. I never...
No luck on the missing chicken, her name is/was Princess. I guess it would be stupid to leave them out like I used to. For now I am trying to only let them out after I get home around 6:00 and I put the terrier out there with them. I checked all the evergreens in the area, no luck. Those of...
It has been almost two years and they do fine during the day. They are locked up at night. I hate to keep them caged 24/7. I have a terrier. If I leave him out with the girls will that keep t he predators away or do ou think this is a quirk?
Help, I can't find my slw bantam. I let the five hens out this morning and she is not around. There is a pile of feathers though. That can't be good. Do you t hink something got her?
Hi Celtic chick, Dooner here. Don't know if you all remember me. I have not been on line for quite a while. I went to the batch a year ago. Sill have my huge flock of five. Everything is okay. I travelled for a job for the last year and a half, so I was only home for a day or two a week...
