I recently bought 6 straight run chicks from TSC. 4 yellow (Orpington) and 2 blacks, which we were told were Australorps. Now, a few days later I realize that the two black ones are completely different. One is significantly smaller and quite a bit more feisty! He has 4 toes all black. I’m attaching photos!

What do I have here??

Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly--this black chick has the same number of toes as any other chick, right?
Well yes- 4 like all the chicks in this group. Except for my one black silkie that has 5.

With those black legs, beak, and so forth--it keeps making me think of a silkie's black skin, but it clearly cannot be (no 5th toe, no fuzz on the legs, no sign of a crest).

This page has photos of a lot of kinds of baby chicks:

A lot of the "black" ones start out with yellow on them, but that page does show groups of chicks, so you can see some of the variations within the breed.

The blackest one I see there so far is a Blue Andalusian (any blue breed of chicken tends to produce some black ones as well, due to how the genetics work.)
