Hey again guys! I'm looking to hatch out some more blue Cochin chicks. I'm trying to encourage one of my blue Cochins to go broody and hatch out some babies for me! She has already gone broody once so she knows what she's doing. And also, it's summer time here in Florida, so I know it's about the time she should be going broody. How should I encourage her to go broody? I have five eggs in the nesting boxes at the moment to try and have her go broody but it's not working very well. Thank you guys!

The only hen I’ve ever had go broody would only go broody in the winter. Absolutely refused to leave her nesting box. Once spring rolled around and I actually needed to set eggs she sauntered out of her box for the first time in months and a fox got her😢
Poor baby...So sorry...

I'm currently trying to get one of my easter eggers to go broody. I have 6 girls and a small collection of eggs... Tried locking one girl up with the eggs and she rather roost than sit on the eggs. I traded her out for a different girl. This one is sitting on the nest.

I understand you can't force the behavior so we shall see if one of my girls chooses to brood

I checked in on my girl tonight and she is sleeping in the nest box. Not usual behavior for my hens.... They usually leave the nest box after they lay their egg and go for foraging or for the roost. In the nestbox she has a choice to stay on her eggs or roost. Yesterday she was roosting. She has 3 of her own eggs now plus 5 others.

I'm going to let her out if it gets too hot. She has adequate food and water.

I'm debating letting her out anyway, the farmer didn't tell me how long I should keep them locked up with their eggs
