Trauma

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Oh gosh, I am SO sorry, :hugs I can't imagine the heartbreak you are going through. šŸ’” @Debbie292d has given you some wonderful advice to help your boy survive shock, he will be nervous for some time to come I'm sure so go slow letting him outside for a while.

Glad to meet you, but SO sorry about your losses. Best wishes saving that survivor. You have some excellent advice.

If you save him, you should make sure he has some companions. Chickens (and roosters!) are flock animals, and really need others.

You may want to improve the predator protection around your coop and pen. Here is a helpful article Predator protection for new & existing coops.

That only works so long as the birds are in their pen and coop! If you are letting them free range, you will have to decide how to keep the dog out, or supervise them all the while they are outside. Free ranging WILL result in some losses, so you may decide to keep them in the pen and give them leafy greens and occasional bug treats.

If the dog was yours, you may want to work to see if the dog can learn to leave the birds alone. Not all dogs will learn this, but many can! If the dog was a neighbor's I hope you can persuade them to keep the dog in their own yard!
