Wait for chest feathers. Males will have black (not dark brown) chest feathers. In my experience, male SF combs are very obvious by 4 weeks, pretty clear difference by 3 weeks. Some females have dark brown feathers that look black at first glance, but are not.

Hatchery-quality Salmon Faverolle females are notorious for being incorrectly marked. If those were mine, I'd assume that all the chicks were male and the last chick is a female. That would be very bad luck indeed. SF cockerels get their combs in pretty quick. And once the chest feathering starts to come in it will be more obvious.

I am thinking that the at least one of the female Salmon Faverolles chicks that arrived three weeks ago is a male. Any thoughts? A few of the birds have at least some black feathers, but one in particular has quite a bit (photos 1 & 3). The chick that was sent identified as a male has the red mark on its head (photos 2 & 4). Thanks. Three of the four males that I ordered died leaving just this one with the red on its' head. The rest do appear to be female.

This would have been much less confusing if you'd started your own thread instead of making me question why the birds in these photos and the birds in the first post aren't the same, but I'd agree, you probably have a cockerel masquerading as a pullet.

I apologize. I do not know how to start a new thread. I have been trying to figure that out since I joined BYC. I find it confusing to try to navigate in this website. Again, my sincere apologies.
No reason to apologize, it was just very confusing and took my sick brain a few minutes to realize you were two different people.

Here's how to post a new thread.

Go to the section that's appropriate and at the top you see the green button "Post thread". You should be all set now.
