Hi there,

I brought raised a baby chick thinking it was an australorp hen, however I'm now thinking it may be a Roo due to the tail feathers.

Also due to the red coloring rather than green I'm thinking it may be a black star rather than an australorp.

Can anyone help please?

Yeah doesn't look like the austrolorps we raised so think you're right about that and those tail feathers do look pretty roostery to me

Hi all,

Can I ask what confirms in the picture that it's a cockerel?

He has a large comb for a young chicken, he has colorful patches on it's wings that always indicate cockerel, and pointed hackle and saddle feathers. He also has a upright stance which sometimes indicates cockerel too. Also he is a mixed breed since Australorps don't have any red on them.
