Pat from Ranch-coop. We are primarily coop makers (my wife and I). This site has always been a source of wisdom and interest to us, and we've recommended BYC to hundreds of our customers.
We currently keep around 30 laying hens on 2 acres. Buff Orpingtons, Columbian Rocks, and various older gals who have been wiley enough to avoid the predators.
We are also brooding about 75 new pullets - Red Sexlinks, Buff Orps, and Ameraucanas.
Most of our time is spent hand crafting our brooders, coops, and portable fence post sets, but we do have time for our hens, and whichever roosters we've accidentally ended up with. We aren't intentionally breeding our hens, and we eat or give away the eggs. Our neighbors are happy with this arrangement, and we benefit from their goodwill.
