Lavender Marans Sex

Hi all, the age old question/anxiety - is my 3 week old chick doomed to be a cockerel?

I have 2 Lavender Marans chicks from Mt. Healthy Hatchery. One was ordered a pullet, and the second was a surprise extra “just-in-case” chick.

Feta seems to be showing signs of being a cockerel. At first, “she” just was feathering much more slowly than my other 3. She seems to have a slightly bigger comb, though no color yet, and slightly thicker legs/feet. Her “twin” sister, Brie, has had a tail for about a week now, but Feta just started sprouting tiny tail feathers yesterday. Now, her secondary wings are shorter than her primaries. Brie doesn’t have that same difference in her wing feathers.

What do you think?

They look like lavender orps not marans

From what I understand, they start with lavender Orps to then breed back to Marans to bring in Marans features and dark brown eggs with the lavender plumage.

Both Marans and Orps have white skin. So honestly there's no way of knowing right now. Lav Orps are WAY more common though.

As everyone else has said, 6-8 weeks is a good age to sex.

The girls are 6.5 weeks now, and comb and wattle wise they look identical, just barely starting to pink up.

I wonder if Feta might be rumpless. She feathered slower, and she just sprouted tail feathers a week or so ago. Brie has had a tail for several weeks.
