Cutting grass and feeding to my chickens

When they are eating grass rooted in the ground, because of the resistance they can tear off small pieces the right size for their crop. That's not possible to do with a long piece of loose grass. I notice when I give them a large piece of something like kale, some of them will stand on it to be able to tear off smaller pieces. They also will shake it to break it off, but that doesn't work so well with grass.

I have an old pair of scissors in the coop. When I give mine grass I've pulled, I snip it into shorter pieces because of hearing about impaction.

In addition to grass, I have a lot of dutch white clover in my lawn that they seem to love much more, and when it's young it it's just the right size to toss in the run as-is. They seem to be able to pick off the clover leaves on larger pieces, too.
