I feel the pain in that one. My beauties ended up crowing and my oldest child wasn't happy when we had to rehome. We now have 4 chickens, 2 dogs( they have been with us 9 yrs now) 2 new hermit crabs and a new bunny. I don't care if my oldest kid isn't happy anymore- I can't handle any more pets!!!!!
Our EE was Chica but she was black and white, not yellow. Never argue with a child about a pet name
Our 3 yr old named our BO boo boo chicken. They are so cute
They do seem a bit challenging. My two favorite EEs loved being held until I moved them outside to the coop then it was like- if you not giving me treats then keep moving, look but don't touch. They have been rehomed due to crowing.
We had to rehome our other EEs because they were Roos or at least crowing but so gorgeous! Had the cutest muffs but this black one we thought was a black star mix until her first few eggs came out green. Someone pointed out the pea comb which only developed a week before she started laying. I...
Everyone said mine were pullets up til they were 17 weeks. They made crowing noises early on since they were younger but nothing that really said cockerel --but at 17 weeks it was everyday - the crowing so I had to rehome.
Oh goodness, I can't imagine killing any of my four chickens. But we have them for egg laying and when they get to old they'll just be pets at that point.
Now I have some interesting news. My Easter egger is the only one laying and considering where I live, I was scared of them making too...
I only have one pullet laying and it my EE. I've been watching the video monitor when I hear her talking and I go out when she gets out of the nest box to collect. The other pullet is a Buff Orp and she's not laying just yet. I haven't cracked them yet but I'll check
Do Easter Eggars lay brown eggs? I got three eggs the same color as the one on the far left then the last two eggs I got from her are brown. What gives?
Okay, so I'm back in! I had to rehome all 4 of my EE's because they ended up cockerels so I was more than upset. This weekend one of my pullets started laying and I was so confused on who because the color was so off. I have a BO and what was almost settled on as an austrolorp/black star mix...
My chocolate ones ended up a reddish and black color while my chipmunks were mainly white with black. I'm seeing a trend. Their muffs came in around 3-4 weeks old. I love the colors of all 4 of your babies
