Hatch is over. Last external pip pipped a big vein and bled out. Last internal pip never made it through the shell. 21 made it out alive. 1 of those died after 2 days.
I thought my babies were done yesterday. Then I saw 2 pips in one of the incubators. I candled remaining eggs in the other incubator and saw signs of life and heard peeps from inside 2 of the remaining eggs so I put them back. This morning the 2 external pips were chicks. And I candled...
Just a few of the fluffy babies so far. They’re still hatching but these were all dried off and I had a good opportunity to grab them quick. I have a buyer coming this afternoon.
I had a few eggs that had air sacs on their sides. I think it’s from the hens playing soccer with them. I incubated them just for fun and surprisingly enough, some of them are hatching. This one was kicking out the side of the shell when I checked on the peeps a little while ago.
Would you look at these fluffy cheeks! Yes the bug is on the outside, but it sure got the attention of this chick. So far all my EE babies look like chipmunks. So cute.
I have 2 fluffy butts out. I had 2 external pips at lunch and by 4pm the first one was out. Second one hatched while we were preparing dinner. Both look like chipmunks (not surprising given they are Easter eggers). Hoping to wake up to a bunch more out, but so far no other pips that I can see
Today is hatch day according to the calendar. No external pips, but I quick checked an egg from each incubator and we have an internal pip and I could hear baby cheeping.
Im getting excited for peepers. With our power outage and all that excitement the other day, I am happy to report nearly everyone made it into lockdown looking strong. A couple I think are quit, but I locked them down anyways. Got my big ole brooder set up and tested for holding temp this week...
We’ll, good news, power is back on. Let’s hope it stays that way. Getting them plugged back in in my basement. They stayed toasty warm with the residual heat from the pellet stove with a moving blanket over them for the past 90 minutes. Air temp according to my thermometer was 100 when I just...
Having a full blown panic attack. Power went out at 2:45 this afternoon. Ended up running my incubators to a friend’s house about 30 minutes in because power company had no eta for restoration. Power was back on after about an hour and a half. I went and got them after dinner, got them all...
I tossed them in the compost already. It was a long crack and was starting to seep a little. I can hatch more, so I decided better safe than have an egg mess up a hatch.
I caved and I candled. Pulled clears and a couple quitters. I was bummed to have missed one egg was cracked before setting because it was developing nicely but no way was it going to make it through. I also bobbled the last one and it broke on the table and that one was developing too...
Hello BYC friends. After a few year hiatus due to life and stupid city politicians getting in the way, I’m back at it with my incubators full (moved out of that city to wide open spaces). I’m a couple days behind on the hatch a long not having thought about how fun this was in the past until...
