    Easter Egger club!

Just an update: Rizo is doing great! She spent 4 days in the dog crate in the house. When I brought her in and bathed her (it was surprisingly easy to bathe a chicken!) I pulled what resembled a cats hairball out of her vent. I was made up of mostly straw After that she started doing better. I...

    Easter Egger club!

Thanks. I did some searching. I forgot the to mention the foul smell in the wet butt. Looks like it might be vent Gleet. So I am getting my dog crate cleaned up and ready for her. Then I plan in bathing her and keeping her in the house for a few days (or until better). My problem at this point...

    Easter Egger club!

Update: ok wth?! Now one of my other EE's is having an issue! She seemed fine when I let her out if the coop this morning. Now she's moving slow, her butt is soaking wet, and I just pulled what appears to be a wad of straw out of her butt! And, she looks like she has a hemoroid... I'm going to...

    Easter Egger club!

I've got a question. I'm sure the answer is somewhere on this site, but I'm hoping to get a quick answer from you guys. One of my favorite EE's, Pum'kin, appears to have not emptied her crop for at least 2 days. Now it's not swollen, just full. It's not rock hard, and it doesn't feel like mushy...

Sadly not much else you can do. It's sooo hard to wait though... Just keep an eye on her. For the most part this is normal. But if she starts to look uncomfortable, sluggish, and or stops eating THEN there's a problem. It'd be a good idea to read up on being "egg bound".

    Easter Egger club!

Was this her first egg? It's not uncommon for their first eggs to be sporadic. One of my girls laid her first eggs for 7 days straight, then nothing for nine days.

    Easter Egger club!

In my attempt to alleviate the fighting over nesting space, I added two cardboard boxes that I cut the ends out of, to the other end of the coop. Apparently the girls didn't like them. They immidiatly kicked all the bedding out of them, and started laying in the corner next to them. This is a...

    Easter Egger club!

All three of my EE's were hatched July 15th, and started laying just before Christmas...so 5mo. But I have heard if some earlier or much much later. Two of them lay a pale mint green and one lays one that is only slightly bluer.

    Easter Egger club!

It could be that even though in our mind there are two nests, to the girls it probably seems as one because there isn't a high enough partition between them. I wonder if simply adding a curtain or something will make a difference...

    Easter Egger club!

We have two built in boxes for five girls. And while the do alternate sides from time to time, they all (usually) insist on laying in one side.

    Easter Egger club!

(I will be posting this in another forum as well in order to get more answers) HELP!!! I have 5 girls. 3 EE's (6mo), 1 Red Star (8mo), 1 BR (6mo). We hadn't gotten any eggs from our Red Star (our best layer) for a couple days. No big deal. I just figured she was taking a break. Yesterday I was...

    Easter Egger club!

Chickens have no real concept of time. I know my girls are up fairly early, but I don't let them out of the coop til it starts getting light out. I have read about people saying their chickens get pretty loud. I guess I've been lucky...until now. Recently the girls have really gotten into...

    Easter Egger club!

The funny thing is, they are the same color and weight as the terra cotta eggs we had in the nests when the girls were still learning where to lay. One day my DH came in all excited because Roxi had "laid 2 eggs in one day!". I burst out laughing so hard! Then I felt bad for laughing at...

    Easter Egger club!

Have you tried cornering them so you can pick them up? While I'm new to chicken keeping, it didn't take long for me to figure out how the pick them up so the couldn't flap their wings. I center my hands over each wing, and then tuck them under one arm like a football and my hand supporting the...

    Easter Egger club!

wow now that's what I want,  color!!!  I had no ideal the pink eggs came from BR's I have even been researching trying to find what chicken layed them.   "They" say that BR's lay a "light brown" egg. But my Roxi's are really more pink that light brown.

    Easter Egger club!

All my girls are real friendly. But we have hand raised them from 3 days old (except our Red Star who we bought at 16wks). From chicks on we made sure they were constantly handled. Once the girls were moved out to the coop/run they did get a little skidish. We'd have to corral them into a corner...

    Easter Egger club!

I took this pic in the house. But the lighting just doesn't show the "blue" enough. The brown one is from my Red Star just to show size. This one I just took outside when I went out for our second gathering of the day. The blue is from one of my EE's, and the pink is from my Barred Rock...
