Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

Our old guard rooster got mad because my wife passed him by with out giving him his treat so he started to give her grief. A big red ranger boy came to her rescue. The new kid on the farm took the old boy out and sent him on his way and stayed next to his mom while she tended the rest of the...

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

Thought about Xena for a hen but really don't like that one for one of my girls. I was worried about getting it to eat but this morning it started guzzling egg yolk. In a couple of days I'll pick out some starter grower of the right size pieces and get that in it. Maybe a little nutri drench...

No name chick will be named Rambo if it is a rooster and Cleopatra if it is a hen.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

We have an no name yet chick from the last hatch that we are taking extreme care of. It has not learned to walk yet and has finally learned to drink egg yolk. We think it has a nerve problem. I'm trying to make a chair that it can use to get around in out of Bloodwood that I have on hand. I...

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

To many chicks to count them in the brooder. They move to fast. No more will hatch. I'll count tonight by putting them in a laundry basket. They move around like little road runners.

All I can see are black chicks.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

Possibly. You are on the right track. It took me a few minutes to figure out that Rhode Island Red Rooster x White Giant Hen could have black chicks. I thought maybe they would be sex links but I don't know yet. I'll look closely now that they are in the stage two brooder where I can handle them...

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

How can you hatch solid black chicks when you have no black roosters and no black hens on the farm? Is that off the edge? I'm not ready to jump yet. I didn't get eggs from anyone else either. Only my girls. Only my roosters.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I've lost count on how many have hatched. I'll get a count as we move them into the brooder.

Still hatching and getting louder by the minuet. These should have come with silencers.

25 new mouths to feed. Out of 82 eggs so far. Should get 10 more.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

One incubator shows no sign of life and the other one has hatch about 10. Mix of Dark Cornish and Red Sex Links. Not an utter failure but not looking good because of my mistake and one of the incubators my be failing.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I'm going to close the bedroom door on the little loud beak screamers. They can call for mama all they want but she's not showing up for awhile. This are a day early despite being in lock down 3 days early.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I had a nice nap while meds dissipated but no hatches yet. One or two are really loud wanting out not buy the sounds they are making. Got to go out and check on the larger chicks outside now.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I can hear cheeping. I think I could see 3 hatching. I'm going to take a good look at the situation and if I think they are all ok I'm taking a quick power nap. Ma and I worked our fannies off this morning catching and moving hens.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I've set my Outlook calendar up now to record all the incubator dates in. That will work better than trusting my memory.

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I sure hope so. After we try and pick the best shaped eggs that will make it easier for the little ones to break out of and I go and do a huge mistake like this. All the checking temps and humidity.............. to give them the best possible chance of hatching.... If I've ever made a mistake...

Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

Right now I'm working on finding out the hard way what happens when you put eggs in lock down 5 days to soon. From now on I've got to have my better half watching the calendar with me. I know what I did and how I messed up so bad. It was my intentions to have the hatch a week after the one...
