Our little cross-beaked EE, Chiquita joined the layers club this weekend.
She surprised us with her blue egg. We thought her hatchmate, Ginger would have been the blue egger. The pretty green egg is Ginger's. She started laying at 6 months, Chiquita waited another month to start. So worth...
My 27+ week old EE, Ginger laid her first egg on the 27th!!
We are so excited that she finally laid. Had hoped she was a blue egger but this is such a lovely green
We are still waiting to for her cross beaked hatch mate, Chiquita, to lay.
Here are the two newbies, the white is an EE and the black is a BCM. Set them up in a temp pen attached to side of run for a few days, started integration last Thursday. Has gone better than I expected. However, upon closer inspection, turns out our new EE Wilma is really William the Roo. The...
OMGosh I may nearly peed from laughing so hard. "that is so EEWWWY"
Poor carriebain, suggesting she may fit in with the likes of your friends. Now I am starting to understand that picture with you face half covered. Instead of a lovely white mask you opted for a large mouth bass. I am sure...
I'd watch and share that one. But no participating for me. I'm more of a lover than a fighter. you know "I'm gonna hold him and squeeze him and never let go" kind of like a boa constrictor.
Nice try Mr. Hosspak, I am a kid sister to a bully of a big brother and am not easily goaded into sparring. I love Carriebain as she is promising to do the dirty work of raising a couple chicks for me and would never do or say anything to be hostile toward her. You on the other hand...
Are all your hens the same age? I think we have been in this crazy chicken thing for about the same amount of time. Though I cheated and adopted 6 hens that were 7 months and laying and bought just 2 chicks that were 1 week old.
Was thinking of sneaking the newbies in tomorrow night as it is about to get cold and rainy here and the temp pen is not the most hospitable place. Plus, I will be home during daylight hours for the following days to intervene if need be. I like the idea of the hand feeding, will try that...
Tell me, how do you go about integrating a newbie into your flock? I think I added my chicks too early and they are just now starting to hold their own against the Big Girls. Well the one is, the cross beaked one is smaller and flightier, for good reason. I have these two newbies in a temp pen...
Beautiful.
I lost my two older EE's and am still waiting for my little ones to lay. I think we are nearing 26 weeks. Combs have been bright red for a few weeks now. Just added a white EE and a BCM to my 2 EE's, 2 BR & 1 SLW. I too am all about the colorful egg basket. Cannot wait to see what...
