Really? This surprises me. What if you used it like, "That steak was delicious, but I could have done without the okra"? It's in the same sentence together there. Blech. It's basically boiled at that point.

I can't do boiled okra. The texture is all kinds of wrong. Not the biggest fan of fried okra unless it is done correctly. But pickled okra is delicious. I used to eat it all the time as a kid.

Certainly not. Taken into context she was clearly pointing out children whose use of them is irrelevant and not entertaining. My use of them is like curse words. It adds flavor and seasons the sentence to make something that's flat more impactful.
