Hi Dasha, I am in the midst of moving to Indiana with my family; however, you can feel free to source anything (text, images etc.) from my article that you would like. You don't have to credit me either, unless you want to. Happy writing!
Honestly, I would guess your chicken poop is "cleaner" than most processed meat and lunchables kids eat. The biggest concern would be some kind of parasite but most of those will get annihilated in the stomach acids. As others pointed out, we all have stories of our kid ate something...
I would LOVE to, but to go from 4 acres to about 10 acres (which is the next spot I can dam on the property) is almost $40K. Would make for a great pond!
Honestly, there is clearly not "easy fix" so I am probably just going to let bygones be bygones and hope what you are saying about it...
Hi guys, I have a 4-acre pond that is a favorite stopping spot for migrating geese in the Fall and Spring- and although I love nature, the problem here is I get literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of geese. There are so many geese and so much poop that it actually hurts my pond. I get...
The special-egg mixed breeds can have some wonky features about them. I assume by green egg, you mean olive egger because those are not EE's. So given all that, I'd say you need to wait and see because it could well be a pullet with a wonky comb. You'll know in a few weeks to a month for sure.
You sound quite smart. 1) you get nature and do your research. 2) you "get" your parents. Keep those parents happy!
You could probably make a case for a 6-egg incubator. If you live in a city, you could even make a business case to the parents that you will raise birds to sell. ;)
Every now and then a bird will surprise you though. If you don't mind it in your flock I'd just hang on to it until it crows. When they start- it doesn't sound like a crow, in fact it sounds more like a pathetic dying animal. You have a few months before anyone will recognize it to rehome him.
Soooo, not to be Debbie downer here, but in the off chance you can get that egg to hatch... are you aware of the care of a baby wren? It literally involves eyedroppers and feedings every 15-30 minutes. It's no joke, and exhausting. I know you mean the best by giving it a try and I mean no...
The comb development for the age, and comb color plus the leg size and the feather patterns... and to us old chickeners- it just looks like a boy. :)
Don't know if your title was a type or not, but it is a "pullet".
If YOU are getting stressed out by your chickens, it is time to get rid of them. You can humanely put them down if they are that old and/or put them on craigslist for free.
Though it is sad and people may believe otherwise, chickens have no real "emotions" but you do. If owning chickens is...
Hey Fellow Chicken People! I am looking to get maybe 10 ewes for a 4 acre hay pasture I'd like them to keep "mowed". I'm torn between sheep (which I would prefer due to looks, etc) or getting a couple cows (which are supposedly easier, but harder on the ground).
So, the super novice...
