Thinking of getting a few wethered goats (does would be okay too, however, I do know I do not want a buck). This would be my first venture into owning goats and I tend to do a bit of research before leaping head first into something but I wanted to gain some personal insight as well.
I'm...
6 weeks old and finding all kinds of trouble to get into. I'm hoping to send them off to their new homes over the next week but was wondering, given their age, if it would be acceptable to clip one of their wings as these poults have certainly had no issues putting those wings to good use.
The poults are 3 and 4 weeks old this weekend. So far, so good (taps wood) and, for being a first-timer, Sweetpea is being a good mother hen.
Catching a few rays:
This past Saturday was clear the shelters day in my area. One of the local shelters in the next county over had chickens – around 40 or so chickens. A little background. This particular shelter is in a well-to-do county, fairly newish, beautiful buildings with all the bells and whistles; vet...
out this past Saturday. Six healthy and strong poults have hatched out with one egg out of the 7 left currently pipping.
Thus far, even though this is her first hatch, Sweetpea seems to be doing a decent job of mothering. Question, for the Turkey experts. Has it been your experience that a...
I currently have a Turkey hen sitting on about a dozen eggs. We're about 24 days in. This would be her first hatch and the (covered) nest is outdoors in a large pen that is surrounded by electric poultry net fencing. The pen is occupied by both chickens and turkeys. Should I be thinking about...
One of my 3 mo. old BR poults, seems to have injured her leg. I've checked the leg up and down and there's no heat or swelling, nothing looks out of place, however, she's not willing to bear any weight on it. I have her secluded in a large crate in the pet with the other poults. She's eating...
7 Heritage breed poults that I've had since they were 2 days old; 5 Bourbon Reds; 1 Standard Bronze and 1 Narragansett. They just turned 8 weeks old today and it looks like I might have at least 2 Jakes (the other 5 I'm on the fence as far as sexing). The Narragansett is definitely a Jake and...
Looking for a good home for three Khaki Campbell ducks (approx. 3 mos. old). I believe there are 2 drakes and one hen, however, still too young to tell. Hoping to re-home them with someone who has a pond.
Pick-up only.
Thanks for looking!
waterfowl, However, would it be okay to house Turkey's "next" to waterfowl?
I currently have soon to be 4-week old Turkey poults in the brooder (which they're quickly outgrowing). I would like to move them into a larger space. I have 2 stalls in the barn that are secure that I've set up as...
A friend of mine gave me 5 fertile turkey eggs to hatch out under one of my broody hens (I also set 11 Araucana eggs underneath another broody hen). Imagine my excitement at finding, after candling at day14 this past Friday, all 5 turkey eggs were viable (looks like 6 out of the 11 Araucana...
I took advantage of the beautiful weather.we had this weekend to get some more work done on the Banty Shanty:
First, and most important, had to position signage.
Ok, so, onto the more substantial stuff:
Got some hardware cloth on all the windows (have the holes in my hands...
Got started on my third and last mobile coop this weekend, the "Banty Shanty."
The right side. This side will have two large doors that open fully; there will be another door on the left side opposite the nesting box wall:
Looking from the back, window framed out. The contraption to the...
I soon plan on de-worming my chickens with Valbazen, however, I was also planning to treat for mites using Eprinex pour on (.2 ml topically applied to bare skin at the base of the neck).
Since there is no egg withdrawal using the Eprinex, should I wait until I've finished de-worming with...
Buckeye rooster injured. My one Easter Egger has a few puncture wounds and a lot of feathers missing but she's in good shape otherwise. Soaked her and scrubbed her wounds in an iodine bath and packed the punctures with Neosporin. One of my Buckeye hen's wounds are a little more severe and...
