Heat plate burning Naked Neck head?

I have a week old turken in my brooder with a heat plate. I’m pretty sure it’s resting its little head against the top of it and it’s gotten a burn on its head. I’m afraid to raise it up higher because I thought you wanted their backs to touch the heat plate? Should I raise it? Move her to a...

    Assuming pet/hatchery quality silkie?

Here’s another chick I picked up from rural king. I got it out of the polish bin not paying attention to the feathered feet. I’m assuming this is just a hatchery quality silkie? Only has 4 toes but has the black skin with feathered feet…. Unless it could be something else?

    What breed?

Can anyone help me identify? I got this little chick out of the bantam bin at Rural King. I tried looking at hatcheries, but just don’t feel like I can really pinpoint the breed.

    Who could be the daddy??

I have eggs set to hatch on Sunday. I got rid of one of my roosters about 5 weeks ago and have since had my ladies with a new rooster. Both roosters have actively swooned the ladies, but obviously my newer rooster for the last several weeks (he was raised in the pen so just took over once the...

Golden Laced Polish x Lavender Orpington Hen

Last fall I hatched some eggs from my Golden Laced Polish rooster and Lavender Orpington. I didn’t realize that the lavender wasn’t a dominant gene, so I was quite sad when all three babies hatched black. I have two hens and one rooster now. See pics below. My roo is mostly black with some...

    Extreme case of Wry Neck

Yesterday my almost 4 month old silkie showed signs of extreme wry neck. Completely out of nowhere. One of my other girls (same age and from same breeder) has it a little bit, but still functions just fine. This girl can’t keep her head up, does the insane owl twisting limp noodle head and neck...

Golden Laced Polish Roo x Lavender Orpington Hen

I hatched a few eggs from my GLP X LO (with the shredder gene) and thought I’d share what I got out of it. These guys hatched on October 11th. I’m pretty bummed that they are all just basically straight black 🤣 I was definitely hoping for something cool. I do think it’s interesting that they all...

New to Silkies (and a mix of something????)

New Silkie mom here and I'm curious if any of mine are showing any signs of hen vs roo. They will be 3 months old here shortly. I know these guys are very difficult to tell but not sure if sometimes you get lucky and can tell early. Also, any guesses on what the heck my mix is? I'm utterly...

    Satin silkie or BYM??

I purchased 4 Silkies from a local breeder. One of them has some normal feathers forming and now I’m super curious what it could be. She said her silkies are all segregated from the other chickens. Is this a Satin Silkie potentially? Or does it really look like a BY mix? If you are thinking...

    New problem child chicky

Need some advice on a baby chick! I just got my third set of chicks for the year and this time I got 4 from a local state hatchery. First time getting chicks from them and so far I feel like they aren’t quite as healthy as my other two sets I got from TS & another back yard hatchery. One of...

Crow at 10 weeks?? Thought I had a hen LOL

Happy Thursday! I have 4 birds still in question. My Splash Ameracauna and Olive Egger because their feathers are just confusing the heck out of me. I thought my SA was a hen, but this morning I was blessed with hearing 2 very pathetic crows from it. At 10 weeks?? Isn't that too early?? LOL My...
