I believe it is EYP. I'm hoping the baytril will help. I'm concerned that the avian vet didn't drain the fluid in her abdomen. If that's what is causing her breathing issues, it seems like the thing to do.
Got back from the vet. Fluid in abdomen is pushing on lungs causing the respiratory issues. Wasn't concerned with squishy crop that isn't emptying. Didn't take a fecal sample to rule out gapeworm, didn't think that was the problem. He mentioned either egg peritonitis or a tumor. Couldn't tell...
Typically I'd agree, but she was in such a bad state that all she could do is gasp for air. She wasn't swallowing at all. I'm waiting in the vet parking lot to see what is going on.
After reading through posts, I'm wondering if she hasn't laid the egg because she's sick. She's wheezing to the point of not eating or drinking, she has diarrhea. This started in the span of hours, I don't know what's wrong. Her crop is full of liquid, she ate last night around 11pm, but won't...
My barred rock is very sick. Possibly egg bound, I felt in her vent, the shell is broken but the membrane seems intact. What can I do? She's wheezing, her comb is turning purple. Her crop is full of liquid.
She is my favorite, the absolute sweetest and was fine this morning.
Laying has slowed down for all my hens, I haven't paid much attention because I know many breeds slow down in winter. I tried smelling her breath earlier and didn't smell anything. Her droppings look watery, like when they drink too much when it's hot. I will have to check her belly. She's 9...
Went out to close up the coop and noticed my favorite was in the nesting box. Immediately I knew something was wrong. I brought her in, checked her crop and it's full of water. Poop is watery as well. When I brought her in she was walking, and jumping/flying up on things so she isn't lethargic...
Treats, treats, treats! My girls run to me every time I walk outside because they know I've got the goods. This helps wrangle them up when I need to.
When they were younger, I would sit down on the ground, on their level, at first and they'd hop on my legs/lap to see if I had any treats. After...
Dh and I were both on board to get chickens. Everyone in our family are pretty big egg eaters, I cook and bake with them a lot. Dh built the coop/run and I fast tracked my way to crazy chicken lady :lau .
Full disclosure, he would get a bit irritated by my chick obsession at first. He viewed...
This sounds so special! You are right, living rural can sometimes be a pain lol. Especially when we run out of produce but have plenty of everything else. I try to time my runs to hit all the errand spots I need when I go into town. But, I feel like I'm always forgetting something or need...
But I believe with extreme bullying, it still helps to isolate and slowly add others to it. I've seen this mentioned before. I've also read that pulling the bullies out can help.
