    Inoculant on clover seeds

:) I wondered about that fungus as I think it is growing under my duck pool and I was afraid it would hurt them, I had just seen it on a video.

    scaly leg mites

I see this is old now, but it is very infected. She needs soaked and some antibacterial ointment with no pain relief added put on it. She probably needed antibiotics too. I would get help and do the bag balm or vaseline first anyway. Wait till the infection is healed before you do anything...

Rats? Anyone have duck death from rats?

Thank you. We had put more hardware cloth all around anout 2 ft high and 2 ft out. We thought that would work but either something was already inside or it climbed and got another duck, I feel awful, we worked 4 hrs to help them. I took the last two out, they are in the sunroom right now. The...

    Power out, 12 1 1/2 week olds

Maybe closer to one week. Power has been out for 2 hours. Theyare clumped together in a bin in my sunroom. I put a blanket over it. Temp is about 80. I shut all the windows etc, it's 63 outside. In about 2 hours it should be light out. If power is still out I have a hen that raised 4...

Rats? Anyone have duck death from rats?

I know this is old, hope you see it. My ducks have a covered run and their house is inside. I have had rats before, part of the run is chain link. Yesterday, during the day, my duck put her head through the fence probably to get greens. She was killed, the head was gone, neck was just...

How do I prevent hawks while free ranging?

I scream at and threaten the hawks. I put my arms in the air. I take metal can lids and bang them. Neighbors must think I'm crazy but it gets the hawks away so I can put my birds away. There is an alarm sound the head chicken or rooster will make if they see danger. I can make that sound...

    Stumped - swollen abdomen

Did you ever find out? I have a hen like this, she also has diarrhea but acts starved and greedy when eating. She is also thin on the breastbone. She can't hop up anymore. But other wise acts fine. She is not laying.

Rhode Island Rooster crossed with Dominique Hen

Dominique dad, not sure which mom. Black sex link, white sex link or Rhode Island Red. 3 boys, one has a head just like dad, one has like a "flat top" comb, the other a more regular comb. Only the rosette combed boy has wattles.

When to add pine litter to the brooder?

You can wait to 4 or 5 weeks for grit as you say. Be sure it is fine chick grit.

    EMERGENCY HELP PLEASE!

Last ditch effort, can you hold them upside down and gently massage the crop to get them to spit up what's stuck? I never tried this, just a guess.

    EMERGENCY HELP PLEASE!

Just if they make it, no food other than chick starter for 8 weeks. No scratch till fall and winter. I only feed scratch in winter evenings to help keep them warm.

Top of Chicken's head is ripped off

Is it just saline? I don't see ingredients. Just saline would be a good wash. I would put the cream on and let her settle tonight.

    EMERGENCY HELP PLEASE!

I think 98 is too hot. 85 to 90 is probably fine. And plain water is fine. If you do think food is stuck I would try to feed a bit of coconut oil. On your finger...so you know it's just a bit.

Funny because my daughter holds the roosters. They attack me, but not her.

    Baby chicks keep dying

I have gotten chicks from Tractor Supply for 3 yrs. Never had this issue. I think you are keeping them too hot, that will also dehydrate them even if they are drinking. Look for an expiration date on the feed bag. Ours was selling year old expired food for starter food and I told them and...
