I wish I could get pictures uploaded but I'm having issues doing that. My coop is about waist high. I blocked off the nest boxes since the girls are only 5 weeks. I do plan on using pine shavings once they start laying, is that a good ideas r is straw better In the boxes??
I don't have any...
Tonight is my girls first night in their new coop. Like any mama hen, I'm worried about them and hope it's a good night. Is there a camera that will be able to be hooked up wireless without any electricity run in the coop?
We actually have two of these crates. They are identical in size. I was going to use them side by side and use one as storage. After reading this( after months and months researching on here, I can't believe I missed the recommended space for each bird.). Such a slacker!!!
So now the plan is to...
We got our first chickens 3.5 weeks ago. They've been in our finished basement in a borrowed oversized dog crate. We put a tub of dirt and sand mixture in their crate and they love it. 3 gold sex links named Hermione, Layla and lady Gaga. Lady Gaga might be a rooster which would be quite funny...
My 6 chicks are three weeks old. 3 are gold and 3 black. One of the gold sex links looks different from the other two. Their feathers are coming in and all but this one has long tail feathers. She has a red tip on her beak. As a new chick she had brown tipped wings and the red beak. Now she is...
Our chicks are 3 weeks old. I have them in a extra large dog crate our friends let us borrow. The bottom has a large black tray that I have covered with paper towels. They've been in here for a week and a half. They are growing great. I've been feeding them chick starter. I just noticed...
The girls are a week old now. 2 of the little beauties have been spreading their wings and trying to escape. One has flown on top of the waterer. My dad brought buy a bigger tote that is probably double the size of what we just had them in and a few inches taller. We have some metal organizer...
Our chicks are almost a week old. I've been using paper towels and then I scatter a handful of the pine shavings in. So far it's going well. Easy to clean up.
Thanks for your personal experience. It seems like a covered run is so important here. My yard doesn't get much shade at all so they would probably bake without a cover.
Love that coop, I like the set up of that style. Thank you!
We live in MA. Have six sex links that are only a week old right now. It does get pretty cold and decent amount of snowfall. We got almost 5 feet this season.
Besides using tarps to cover that cattle panel coup, any ways to cover...
We just got our first chicks this week. As soon as our snow melts we will build their coop. There's about a foot and a half left to melt. I have a few questions.
For 6 hens, how big of a run should be good for them. We have plenty of yard to use for their coop and run. Just looking to keep the...
So last night I rinsed pasty bottom girl under some warm running water. Then applied a little olive oil with a qtip. Everyone seemed fine this am, I think I will need to transfer them to a higher box soon. It seems like a few are trying to fly. This am I checked her and there was a little...
Question about one of my chicks. One of them keeps having a tiny bit of poop stuck to her. I've been reading a little on here about pasty butt. When I pick her up and wipe with a damp cloth, it seems to come clean but the poop is still stuck to her feathers. It doesn't seem too stuck on her...
