    No Naked Neck

I have a naked neck rooster and 7 naked neck hens. They are not pure naked necks. I imagine they have been crossed with whomever many a time. I only have NNs, no other chickens. I was graced with 4 chicks this past year. Only one of them has a naked neck! I thought NN was the dominant gene so...

Hey Hellbender, I'm in Spain ! I'm guessing you're in the US of A ?? Anyway, I am struggling with my breeding program and I'm not impressed with the lack of naked necks in my chicks ! Hmmmm, back to the drawing board.

    Help With Genetics !

I'm new to all of this ie chickens, raising chicks, breeding, etc. I managed to get 4 chicks in my first year. Not a great outcome from 4 broody sessions, but hey, live and learn. 3 of the chicks look normal ie no naked necks, and one is a naked neck. Now, I live in Spain and my spanish isn't...

    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

OMG ! I am soo happy I found this thread. I thought Naked Necks were unpopular in the US. Here in Spain they are very popular with the older country folk. They seem to like my roo, especially and twice I have been asked for fertile eggs. I love my Naked Necks ! I have a hen sitting on 6 eggs...

Hatching with a Broody & Humidity

Thanks gus2upp, I wanted to hear from desert folk ! So lack of humidity isn't an issue...that's excellent news. I'll stop worrying about it then.

Hatching with a Broody & Humidity

I'm hoping someone out there knows what I am going on about !! I have a very broody hen. She is now sitting on 9 eggs and being very good about,... so far...well it is only day 2 ! Anyway we live in a very very dry part of the world. There are some excellent advantages to this, for example, our...

    Molting in Spring

Thanks everybody for your support. I guess its gonna be all right with my broody. We've managed to design an isolation cage, so we put her in there with no bedding. I kept her in there for about 18 hours. Once I let her out she went back to sitting, but I gently coaxed her out, only twice, and...

    Molting in Spring

Anyone got some advice on molting in spring ? I am new to this game. My first batch of chicks ever = 8 naked neck girls and 1 boy delivered as month old chicks in August last year. I was wanting to have a go at breeding, but all but two of my girls are molting really heavily. One of the ones...

Review by '' on item 'Naked Neck-turken'

I love my Naked Neck crosses. Other people think they are ugly but that just makes me love them even more !! We have 8 girls and one boy. The other 3 boys were delicious and soo big. About 5 kgs each. I want to be able to breed them myself and am a complete beginner as of last summer so am...

Comment by 'nevergiveup' in article 'Back To Basic Living - Feather Picking/Plucking And Cannibalism'

Extremely helpful advice. I have 8 naked neck hens and one rooster. One hen is literally pulling feathers out of the other girls and relentlessly picking at a hen wounded by the rooster's spur. They are all in molt which according to the article, doesn't help. Thank you !!

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Hey MandalaMama, I've mixed Quaker type rolled oats in the feed too. I was worried that they were missing out on all the lovely friendly bacteria etc in the liquid. I have noticed however that they were drinking the ferment liquid from the feed trough. Now that they seem to prefer the probiotic...

    Great Success with EMs !!!

Thanks for that pdirt. Yeh, I know that if you leave it longer the friendly bacteria have more time to work. I don't have the space for another 5 gallon bucket, but perhaps once the frosts are over I can find somewhere sheltered outside. I was/am so pleased at my chickens production and health...
