got both my incubators up and running and finally set last night. Late spring snow had me a bit behind. Set 23 white Plymouth Rock, 23 from my marans hens (currently in my Ameraucana and Marans mixed pen so chance of OE) and 38 from my Ameraucana hens (again chance of OE). Going to grow out...
Hoping it’s a bit warmer tomorrow so I can “play with” my babies and take a few more possible entires. Been trying to keep them cozy warm in my outdoor brooder with a weird wintery snap this week.
Hatch is over. Last external pip pipped a big vein and bled out. Last internal pip never made it through the shell. 21 made it out alive. 1 of those died after 2 days.
I thought my babies were done yesterday. Then I saw 2 pips in one of the incubators. I candled remaining eggs in the other incubator and saw signs of life and heard peeps from inside 2 of the remaining eggs so I put them back. This morning the 2 external pips were chicks. And I candled...
This might have been the cutest hatching moment of all time that little foot! And this was a crazy egg I didn’t expect to hatch at all because the air sac was on the side!!
Just a few of the fluffy babies so far. They’re still hatching but these were all dried off and I had a good opportunity to grab them quick. I have a buyer coming this afternoon.
I had a few eggs that had air sacs on their sides. I think it’s from the hens playing soccer with them. I incubated them just for fun and surprisingly enough, some of them are hatching. This one was kicking out the side of the shell when I checked on the peeps a little while ago.
Would you look at these fluffy cheeks! Yes the bug is on the outside, but it sure got the attention of this chick. So far all my EE babies look like chipmunks. So cute.
I have 2 fluffy butts out. I had 2 external pips at lunch and by 4pm the first one was out. Second one hatched while we were preparing dinner. Both look like chipmunks (not surprising given they are Easter eggers). Hoping to wake up to a bunch more out, but so far no other pips that I can see
Today is hatch day according to the calendar. No external pips, but I quick checked an egg from each incubator and we have an internal pip and I could hear baby cheeping.
