Hello just jumping on this thread to ask a question about pecking order. Is it normal for the bottom in the pecking order to sleep in a seperate coop? I have 2 coops which are available to the hens, one they use for laying and one for sleeping. At night they all go in the sleeping one except the...
OK, thank you I have done that today and kept my egg shells and ground them up for the flock. She is much better today and behaving normally, and layed a regular egg.
Hello, my hen ( 8 months old ) was looking a little sad yesterday, sleepy, her tail down and feathers puffed up. I noticed a soft shell sticking out her vent so gave her a warm bath and removed it, followed by another one. Then once dried put her back in the coop and she stood up and laid...
Hey everyone,
So my broody hen hatched 5 pullets and is doing a great job teaching them. I'm just a little concerned she is getting all the nutrition she needs from the chick crumb, her comb and wattle are looking a bit pale and just wanted to know if I can give them access to more viriety of...
Hello
Please can anyone advise. I've ran out of chick crumb and the shops aren't open for 12 hours
Can I give them ground up porridge oats or grind up some adult layer pellets?
Thanks any advise welcome
She has been in contact with them for 1 week but visable to them for 2 before that. They aren't really pecking her too much anymore, I think its her own fear not that they are over bearing to her.she seems like quite a timid bird compared to the other that joined the flock with her.

My hen just layed her first egg inside the run and I went to get it but the flock got to it before me.
She is new to the flock and is lowest in the pecking order, was she just confused or will she now always lay outside everytime? It was as though she didn't know it was coming...
Ok, I have released them together again and its much calmer than yesterday. The hen who was bleeding is definitely top of the pecking order and all is calm amongst her original flock....one of my newcomers is laying and the other isn't, she is hiding from them.
Thanks for all your comments on...
I do let mine free range in the garden, but the new hens are still getting used to me and I don't want them flying off, especially as we are very rural, the foxes and their young are hungry at this time of year.
How long does the pecking order take to settle down?

I have just introduced them today and they have been showing them whose boss, but when they submit leave them...
