Hello from (not so) sunny Scotland.

:welcome

Hello, if you attend poultry shows maybe you could find someone showing the breeds you are interested in and you could ask them about purchasing fertile eggs? Good luck finding what you are looking for and thanks for joining!

Glad to meet you, and hope you have some sunny days before May is over! Best wishes finding the birds you want. Hatching eggs sounds like the best route, though you will certainly get some cockerels that must be rehomed or sent to "freezer camp." Best wishes!

You may be able to arrange with neighbors that they will accept a cockerel. Debbie had some good suggestions! Be sure whether your new home has rules about keeping birds!

Here are some articles on chickens and ducks both that may be helpful:

. Incubation article (you may not need this, but perhaps it will be helpful)

. BYC Lists of Chicken Ailments and Cures

. Tips and Tricks for Raising Ducks

. Sticky threads on Ducks from the Duck Forum

To look for articles on your own:

A. Use the SEARCH button, but use the Advanced Search choice, and select ARTICLES at the top of the box. Just enter your keyword(s) and scroll through your results!

B. I find it helpful to notice the rating and reviews. All articles are by BYC members, and all the reviews/ratings are as well. The ratings help a newbie like me sort the most useful and reliable articles.

C. You can bookmark the articles or posts you think you want to refer to again using that bookmark icon at the top of articles or posts. You can find them again by clicking on your own avatar and looking at the list of bookmarks you have built up!
