    Hen or Roo?

She's a Jersey Gold. And she's started laying eggs, caught her on camera in the run.

    Hen or Roo?

Thanks so much! I felt she was a she, but wasn't 100%

    Hen or Roo?

Well, I've started to question if our 5 month old "Marshmallow", is a roo. No crowing. We've started getting eggs from 2 of the 3 birds, but I can only be positive of 1 bird is definitely a layer, and not sure which of the other 2 is laying. Her comb and wattles just keep getting bigger, and I'm...

Some more modifications. Added an Omlet auto door. Also changed the door on the back to access the nesting boxes. The door in the plans went all the way down to the floor, and the pine shavings would get caught in the hinge area. So I used my favorite chicken coop lumber, fence pickets. Bottom...

Update: Now that the weather is getting cooler, I felt it was time to reinstall the side panel. 4 threaded inserts were installed in previously drilled holes, and the panel is held on by 4 SS machine screws.

So I removed the panel above the side door, and covered with hardware cloth. I'll replace the panel using threaded inserts and screws when the weather gets cooler.

We entered the realm of Backyard Chickens due to my daughter. She is 6 years old, and has Autism. Over the winter, they hatched baby chicks at her school. She became so excited about the chicks, that after reading about how they've been therapeutic for a number of people on the spectrum, we...

I had thrown some small round soffit vents in the sides for now, due to constraints. I think I will remove the panel above the side access door, and replace it with hardware cloth. I'll install either t-nuts or threaded inserts there so when the weather cools off, I can screw the panel back on...

I'm hanging PVC corrugated roofing panels to the undersides of the joists to keep predators out and to keep the run area dry.

Thanks, in my gut I felt that the two 4" vents in the plans weren't enough, but I'll pick up some more vents
