What Pond drain fitting ???

What fitting is everyone using with their pond liner for the drain ? I see a few use the shower drains with a shut off valve outside the pond, but I was hoping for ideas where they use a pipe stub sticking up into the pond. It sets the depth of the overflow, and then they just pull the pipe stub out to drain/clean the pond. But what fitting is everyone using for that ??

I can figure out a setup, if you give more info on size of pond, and depth. I don't have a pond, but am knowledgeable in plumbing ideas.
Post pictures of your pond, helps much giving advice.
