What diameter pipe for water bar?

Hi

I'm putting guttering and rain barrel on my run this weekend. What size diameter pipe do people use for the water bar itself (the bit you screw the chicken nipples into)?

Do people use food safe pipe? HDPE? We may use different sizes here in the UK ...

I would think a 1.5" diameter equivalent PVC pipe rated for potable water would be fine. I'd also install a clean out port at one end so you could get a flexible bottle brush in it to clean it out periodically.
