So my chicks are outside now, I got them Feb 27 so they’re about 10 weeks old. I have basically had to fill their water daily since I’ve had them, but today I just went out and it was almost still full. It was cooler today than it has been, and I gave them some treats- lettuce and some berry scraps- and they had water in the yard as well (it was their first day out of coop in the yard!!!) and drank a bit but they weren’t out there all day. Only about two hours. They are acting fine but this seems weird…

Also, I have the nesting box closed off right now, but when should I open them up and start putting decoys in there/expect my first egg? TIA!

With water rich treats and some outside time combined with cooler temps maybe they weren't thirsty.

I open nests at 16-18 weeks depending on breeds.
First eggs also are breed dependent. Leghorns tend to start around 18-21 weeks while Brahma are still busy growing and don't generally start until 30 weeks or older.
