I feel awful. Yesterday I answered a post about hens who hide eggs. I was always finding hidden nests from my Sapphire hen and making a game of finding them. The game ended last night when I found her wedged in between two 800 lb bales of hay. She was dead. With a pretty blue egg halfway out of her.
This is the second hen that I have found trapped this way. Last summer I found my R I Red hen trapped inside a roll of fence. She was looking for a hidden place to make a nest. And she was dead.
I have a lot of hens so it may take a day or two to figure out that one is missing. And it's usually too late by then. So if you have one of the sneaky hens just try to eliminate as many hiding places as you can. Hard to do on a ranch or farm but all you can do is try.
